2016-2018 Chevrolet Malibu Acceleration Pedal Position Sensor Proposed Class Action
A proposed class action lawsuit alleges that 2016-2018 Chevy Malibu vehicles are equipped with a defective accelerator pedal position sensor. Malibu owners allege that the powertrain in affected Malibu models is controlled by an electronic throttle system that includes an accelerator pedal position sensor. Whereas traditional throttle control systems rely on mechanical linkages to connect to an accelerator pedal, the system found in 2016-2018 Chevy Malibus uses electronic sensors, electromechanical actuators, and human-machine interfaces. Because of the defect, 2016-2018 Chevrolet Malibu’s can abruptly lose power, even while travelling at highway speeds and that this poses a safety defect.
This issue is similar to the oil consumption / piston issue posted here: 2016 - 2017 Chevrolet Malibu Premature Piston Failure. and here. The latter issue resulted in a warranty extension from General Motors, along with a computer (ECM) update.
The name of the class action is Hutchinson v. General Motors, LLC (8:19-cv-01551).
