RECALL: KIA CARNIVALS SHOULD BE PARKED OUTSIDE DUE TO FIRE RISK

The 2022–2023 Kia Carnival has been recalled due to the risk of fire, and Kia is advising owners to store their cars outside and away from anything that could catch fire.

The tow hitch harnesses that were either installed as original equipment or added on through Kia dealerships may be defective in more than 3,600 Kia Carnivals.

According to Kia, water buildup on the printed circuit board of the tow hitch harness module can result in a short-circuit. A short-circuit is what can start a fire.

Kia has dealt with issues like this before. Due to the same fire danger associated with tow hitch harnesses that led to six fires in August 2022, Kia recalled its Tellurides model.

In this Kia Carnival fire recall, a fire may start while the ignition is off or while the vehicle is moving.

According to the manufacturer, water that enters through the trailer tow hitch harness wiring connector could damage the printed circuit board in the Carnival trailer tow hitch harness module.

On May 16, 2023, Kia Carnival recall notices will be distributed, and dealers will check to see if the minivan has a genuine Kia trailer tow hitch component. Kia dealers will install fresh fuses and wire extension kits if the assembly is installed.
