Certification Granted in General Motors 8-Speed Transmission Class Action, including Chevrolet Silverado
According to the Detroit Free Press, a judge has approved the class action status of a complaint over the transmission problem filed by GM owners in 26 states.
The class action specifically refers to GM Vehicles built between 2015 and March 1, 2019, and outfitted with GM's 8L90 or 8L45 8-speed automatic transmissions. The plaintiffs said the automatic transmissions in their vehicles occasionally will “slip, buck, kick, jerk and harshly engage," according to Monday's court order from the judge. The plaintiffs said the transmission "causes the vehicle to perform erratically, such as with sudden or delayed acceleration; the vehicles may be unsafe to drive." These vehicles include:
2015-2019 Chevrolet Silverado
2017-2019 Chevrolet Colorado
2015-2019 Chevrolet Corvette
2016-2019 Chevrolet Camaro
2015-2019 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV
2016-2019 Cadillac ATS, ATS-V, CTS, CT6, and CTS-V
2015-2019 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL, and Yukon Denali XL
2017-2019 GMC Canyon
According to the class action complaint, GM, since 2015, “GM has issued thirteen versions of a “technical service bulletin,” or “TSB,” related to this shifting issue alone."
The name of the class action is Speerly v. GM and is being heard in the Eastern District of Michigan.
