Honda Ridgeline Trucks face Recall over Backup Camera Failures
More than 117,000 trucks have a Honda Ridgeline rearview camera recall because the tailgates could damage the wiring harnesses.
Rearview cameras on 2017-2019 Ridgeline pickups that malfunction if the wiring harnesses break from opening and closing the tailgates are subject to recall.
In February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an inquiry into more than 40 complaints over malfunctioning backup cameras in Ridgelines.
Owners of trucks also voiced complaints that opening and shutting the tailgates broke cables, which led to rearview camera malfunctions.
Honda claims that the wiring was not sufficiently protected by the length of tubing that was placed into the harness guide. Additionally, Honda discovered that the zip tie wasn't secure enough to hold the tubing and guide in place.
Honda launched an inquiry in July 2018 after noticing a pattern of rearview camera issues in the United States. The tightness of the zip tie holding the protective tube in place wasn't sufficient, engineers discovered.
The "depth to which the corrugated tubing was put into the accompanying harness guide" was another issue that Honda discovered.
Between December 2017 and October 2022, Honda received 3,437 warranty claims for backup camera failure, but there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities associated with this problem as of November 17, 2022.
As of November 17, 2022, Honda has received 3,437 backup camera failure warranty claims between December 2017 to October 2022, but no reports of injuries or deaths related to this issue.
Honda dealers will replace the rearview camera wiring harnesses, and Ridgeline owners who already paid for repairs can ask for reimbursement.
Honda Ridgeline backup camera recall letters will be mailed in January 2023.
