Chevrolet Spark Transmission Problems & CVT Warranty Extension

Along the same vein of the 2016-2017 Chevrolet Malibu and Chevrolet Cruze piston problems written here, there have been more than a few complaints regarding the 2014-2017 Chevrolet Spark regarding transmission issues. Specifically, the issues revolve around a specfic transmission (RPOs M4M, MR8). Consumers have complained about the Check Engine light being illuminated and the following diagnostic trouble codes

  1. P0871 (Transmission Fluid Pressure Switch 3 System Performance)

  2. P2714 (Pressure Control Solenoid Valve 4 Stuck Off—Hydraulic/Mechanical Problem) may be set in the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

There is a reference to potential TSB named PIP5521A.

Common complaints also include:

  • Jerking or shuddering during the normal course of driving

  • Hesitations while attempting to accelerate from a stopped position

  • Engine stalls out or intermittently shutting off

  • Rough start or hard shift and sudden acceleration
