Ford Has Recalled More Cars In 2024 Than Honda, GM, Toyota, Nissan, VW And BMW... COMBINED
It’s the halfway point of the year and Ford has already announced 31 recalls that affect 3,660,752 cars, trucks and SUVs,
Naturally, Ford outsells all other automakers in terms of sales; in fact, 1.9 million new Fords were sold last year. Ford issued much more recalls for more vehicles than GM, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, VW, and BMW combined, but Toyota was only slightly behind at 1.89 million, while Chevrolet and GMC together built nearly 2.2 million.
Almost half a million F-150 trucks require software calibration to prevent them from unexpectedly shifting into first gear, and nearly the same number of Bronco Sports and Mavericks needed to be returned to dealers because an electrical glitch could cause their 12-volt batteries to be overused. These recalls are some of Ford's largest recalls to date in 2024.
After Ford, Tesla is the next worst offender. With 2,552,178 vehicles subject to eight recalls, it has performed poorly in comparison to Ford, which sells 1.8 million cars worldwide in 2023. The fact that some of those recalls were resolved with straightforward over-the-air upgrades and weren't recalls in the conventional sense is perhaps the one bright spot in this situation.
Although fewer cars—2,247,965—were impacted by recalls than Elon Musk's company, Chrysler nearly overtook Tesla with 20 more individual recalls. A little over a million cars, trucks, and SUVs were recalled by Kia, Honda (including Acura), and Toyota (including Lexus), but notice how much better GM performed than any of them, with only approximately 655,000.
