More Toyota and General Motors Takata Airbag Recalls
About 61,000 older Corolla, Matrix, RAV4, and Pontiac Vibe automobiles have air bag inflators made by Takata that might explode and shoot shrapnel, therefore Toyota and General Motors are warning their owners to cease driving them.
The critical alert Monday includes the RAV4 small SUV from 2004 and 2005, as well as several Corolla compact cars and Matrix hatchbacks from the 2003 and 2004 model years. About 11,000 Pontiac Vibes from 2003 and 2004, which were produced at the same California plant as the Matrix, are also covered.
“If the air bag deploys, a part inside is more likely to explode and shoot sharp metal fragments, which could cause serious injury or death to the driver or passengers,” Toyota said in a statement.
Takata driver air bags are present in the recalled RAV4, although they are located on the passenger side of the Corolla and Matrix models. According to the manufacturer, there is an additional recall for the Corolla and Matrix because their air bags can deploy without a collision.
Rather than taking their automobiles to a local dealer for repairs, both car makers advised owners to get in touch with one. Dealers will offer services like vehicle pickup and delivery, mobile repair, and towing the car to a dealer.
