Class Settlement for FCA 'Death Wobble' Jeeps
If you purchased or leased a 2018-2020 Jeep Wrangler or 2020 Jeep Gladiator SUV, a Jeep "death wobble" lawsuit settlement has been tentatively approved and you may be entitled to certain benefits
There are no recorded deaths associated with the problem, which is more appropriately recognized as a front-end vibration, despite the fact that consumers and the media have referred to it as a "death wobble" and the Jeep retains its acceleration, braking, and steering capabilities.
In response to the initial complaint and claims of a "death wobble" in Jeep Wrangler (JL) cars, FCA produced Customer Satisfaction Notification V41 for 2018-2019 models.
According to Chrysler, the steering wheels of Jeep vehicles may shake and wobble, especially while moving at speeds greater than 55 mph and after making contact with a bumpy road surface. The tremors were more likely to occur in environments with temperatures below 40 degrees F.
In order to reduce the wobbles, it was disclosed that the steering dampers would be changed out with better ones as part of a customer service program. However, since the steering dampers weren't broken, there was no need for a safety recall.
The free steering damper replacement program and a compensation program for consumers who had already paid were communicated to the affected owners.
The settlement deal specifies that a Wrangler or Gladiator buyer will only be eligible for an extended warranty if their front suspension steering damper fails, notwithstanding the plaintiffs' desire for Chrysler to buy back the Jeeps.
Eight years or 90,000 miles after the Jeep's initial put-in service, the extended warranty is in effect.
Customers may also request reimbursement if they paid to fix a steering damper. However, the 2019 Customer Satisfaction Notification V41 already covered steering damper repairs for Jeep Wranglers model years 2018–2019.
