Chevy Shake Class Action Lawsuit very near settlement in Florida
Way back in October of 2018 and December of 2019 I wrote about the mysterious Chevy Shake, a condition thousands of Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC owners have complained about, namely shaking around the vehicle cabin when the vehicle is going over 45 miles per hour. Or, as AutoGuide describes the issue:
Online forums and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) complaints database are flooded with posts alleging that GM’s full-size SUVs, including the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade, all exhibit the same off-putting traits: unexplainable wind buffeting and vibration. Many of the complaints allege that these problems also affect the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.
GM issued a preliminary information bulletin (PIT) over the issue. Poorly attached roof sheet metal is the main issue that GM looked to fix and instructions for doing so are located in PIT5318B. To perform the fix, technicians have to remove the vehicle’s headliner and inspect the roof bows for proper bonding with the roof sheet metal. If there is an issue, the bonding must be completely redone, which means new panel control vibration material is packed into the roof of all SUVs that have received this fix.
The PIT is accessible here and only covers the 2015 Cadillac Escalade, 2015 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe and GMC Yukon.
Now, based on court filings accessible here , mediation appears to have been successful and owners of the class vehicles in Florida should receive some benefits (although what those are have yet to determined since a proposed settlement agreement hasn’t been released. Owners of the following vehicles should receive some benefits:
2015-2020 Cadillac Escalade
2014-2019 Chevrolet Silverado
2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban
2015-2020 Chevrolet Tahoe
2014-2019 GMC Sierra
2015-2020 GMC Yukon / Yukon XL
