GM Recall Issued For Missing Transmission Bolts On Chevy, GMC, Buick, Cadillac Models
General Motors has issued a safety recall for a variety of Chevy, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac models due to missing transmission accumulator bolts. The GM recall includes vehicles both in the U.S.
The problem: The start/stop accumulator endcap may have missing or loose bolts. General Motors has identified a defect on certain Chevy, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac models wherein the start-stop transmission accumulator may have bolts missing. The missing bolts can be found on six- and nine-speed front-wheel drive transmissions.
The hazards: missing bolts on the start-stop accumulator endcap could possibly result in a transmission oil leak. If the leak is not fixed, the problem may progress to a loss of propulsion, which could ultimately lead to an increased crash risk. What’s more, leaking transmission oil in the presence of an ignition source could increase the risk of a fire as well.
The fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the start-stop transmission accumulator and replace it if any bolts are missing, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 14, 2020. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Buick Customer service at 1-866-608-8080, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N202313440.
