2015-2016 Chevrolet Silverado Pretensioner Cable Recall

Vehicles Affected: Model-year 2015-16 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks are part of a recall affecting approximately 23,000 vehicles; the recall includes Tahoe Police Pursuit and Special-Service SUVs

The Problem: The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle, causing the cable to fatigue and separate. If the cable becomes fatigued or breaks, the driver may not be properly restrained, increasing their risk of injury in the event of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the pretensioner cable and seat side shield for free.

What Owners Should Do: Chevrolet manufacturer GM did immediately announce an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 800-222-1020, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
