Common Problems with the 2017 GMC Yukon
Exterior Lighting Problems:
“The rear tail light has gone out. The LED board has a crack in the soldering causing the entire unit to malfunction.”
“The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was parked, the passenger’s side rear tail light failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was determined that the full assembly light kit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.”
“Rear brake lights fail due to an issue known by GMC - MULTIPLE GMC YUKON and YUKON XL have this issue. All within the same year. The metal connector in the Brake housing fails and requires it to be soldered or a complete replacement costing consumers $800+ for replacement. A severe safety issue as the Brake Lights quit working!!”
Powertrain, Transmission Issues:
“At traffic light in drive position, shifting drags when accelerated and hard shift jerk, slipping gears or driving and not shifting at all”
“The transmission was jerking jumping and was replaced under warranty and it still can not be fixed. Cause the vehicle to jump backward and hard speed.”
“The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated to respond while shifting from first to second gear. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal would hesitate to respond, causing a 40-50 feet stopping distance delay. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer who advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the Honda dealer where the vehicle was purchased and sold for repair. The vehicle was taken to the Honda dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,564.”
Electrical System Problems:
“The retractable side steps on the passenger side retracts while still getting into the vehicle. It almost catches the entire foot in the door. It-??s a safety hazard for my children and parents. It is currently an out of pocket expense and my vehicle has less than 55000 miles on it. It has happened multiple time including today.”
“The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. When the vehicle was started, the "safety assist system service" warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (tom kelley Buick/GMC, fort wayne, Indiana) where it was diagnosed that the sensor failed and was not covered under warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 900.”
Engine Problems:
“My vehicle began shuddering during acceleration and would violently jerk forward after gas pedal was engaged with decreased power in forward acceleration and increase in rpm. This last a couple of weeks. Now, my vehicle is completely broke down and at a GM certified service center. The Service manager states torque converter completely went out and the transmission is burnt up. The mileage is at $61,000, so GM warranty won’t cover it and the company that holds the extended warranty I purchased hasn’t been able to be successfully contacted. There is a ‘service’ bulletin but no recalls and a class action lawsuit (that I’m not a part of) but no recall. My vehicle completely lost power going 50mph on a busy road without warning. This needs to be a recall due to this dangerous circumstance.”
“Check engine light came on and flashing, stabilitrack light comes on, vehicle idles rough and eventually stalled out. This has happened to me twice in my 2017 GMC Yukon. Once at ~53K miles, again at ~64K miles. One time it stalled on the side of the road with my kids in the vehicle with me late at night on vacation and had to be towed in the middle of the night and we had to stay in a hotel out of town unexpectedly. The 2nd time happened closer to home but had to pay for a rental car since this is my only vehicle and the dealership no longer does loaners. The vehicle runs rough while driving, loses power, and seems to lose control. It is very scary when it happens. Happened in Oct 2019 and again July 2020. It is the same issue as described in N182198000 special coverage memo (dcs5097) from July 26, 2019 but isn't covered in my state yet apparently.”
