Common Problems with the 2017 Chevrolet Trax
Fuel/Propulsion System:
“Driving in cold weather...the car just completely had no power when pressing gas pedal...seems line fuel system froze or turbo freeze.....Car then shut off with No check engine light...no warning light!! Started right back up and still had no acceleration.....very upset with this vehicle and no recalls.....I've seen many posts with this same issue!!”
“On three separate occasions, I went to my Chevrolet store and told them about how my gas gauge was not working correctly. I would fill my Trax up, and instead of it moving to full, the gauge stayed at 1/2 tank. I never knew what the correct level of gas was in my vehicle. I even took pictures of the levels before and after the fill up, but they laughed it off, 3 times and said there were not any codes coming up, so it was okay. The 4th time I went, another company bought out the prior owner and said he had to replace the module. It had worked for a few months but it is still doing the same thing. So I don't think the module was the answer. My car has driven very roughly since I bought it and when they drive it, I am told they can't replicate the issue and I am sent home.”
Brakes Problems:
“I purchased a new 2017 Trax on July 15, 2017. Since I got the car I heard a squeak from the rear brakes. I took it back to the dealer and they told me that it is a new car and the squeal will go away. It did not go away. I have taken the car to the dealer 5 times and they keep telling me the rear brakes are ok. I want the dealer to inspect the rear breaks and fix it. Also I want the left- and right-front lower-control arms, inspect and replacing them as necessary to prevent a fatal accident. My car only has 29, 600 miles. Since I bought it, I have taken the car to the dealer with the same problem. All records for my car are in the dealer.”
“The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Trax. While driving, the contact heard a squeaking noise from the rear brakes of the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated before the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (dekalb sycamore Chevrolet GMC, 1925 mercantile dr., sycamore, il 60178) where the vehicle was repaired on numerous occasions without a known diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that vehicle repairs were determined by the dealer. The manufacturer offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 6,500. The consumer stated no longer own the vehicle 04/06/18.”
Electrical System Problems:
“I bought this car from carvana in late July 2020 not knowing that the car had an electrical problem. The check engine light came on in September 2020. I bought the car in and i was told a ground needed to be replaced. I got the car fixed and the check engine light ended up turning off. I ended up getting into a car accident in October 2020 because the car was still giving trouble. After getting the car fixed from the accident the check engine light has not come off no matter what repairs are done on the car.the car has been in the shop ever since and carvana won’t take the car back. I have all the documentation (invoices and police reports and insurance claims) since getting the car.”
“Multiple warning lights came on. Check engine, stabilitrak among others. Car got hard to steer and lost power. Very dangerous while driving on a highway. Pulled into a local repair shop because vehicle was unsafe to drive. They ran a diagnostic test and couldn't find anything. They said take it to a dealer. Barely Made it to the dealer. Left car. They said it was fixed. Happened again within a week. Took it back. They had the car for about 4 weeks. They fixed it. Ran fine until Sunday June 27 and did the same thing. Got it home. Had to drive very slow. It is now at the dealer again. This seems to be a problem with this vehicle as seen by researching the symptoms. The fact that it is so dangerous should make this a recall”
Engine Troubles — Check Engine Light On; Engine Misfire; Engine Caught Fire; Engine Failure.
Steering Problems:
“2017 Chevrolet Trax mileage 35,703 November 20, 2022 ( second incident)while driving 50 mph on a highway, I lost power steering, acceleration, and dashboard instruments( speedometer & tach) failed. Dashboard message advised of loss of power steering. I was able to drive about one mile before I could safely pull to the side of the road and after stopping the issue resolved itself but check engine light came on but turned off within a 24 hour period. Later found out my son had experienced the same issue with my car one month earlier. December 6 th- Took it to dealer who could not replicate the problem and was unable to provide explanation or solution. This was a frightening safety issue- luckily there was not a lot of traffic when the problem occurred. I am very concerned about driving this car and having this happen again.”
“When attempting to make a right turn, the steering wheel will only go so far (it feels stuck) unless pulled hard to the right. After making the right turn, the steering wheel and does not automatically go back as it should. This issue has only started within the last week or so.”
“The contact's wife owns a 2017 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated when attempting to make a left or right turn when the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact mentioned that as the failure progresses an abnormal noise was heard when the failure occurs. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the steering gearbox to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,600.”
“The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the power steering failed intermittently. The power steering assist warning light was illuminated. The power steering regained functionality and the check engine warning illuminated and then went away. The failure recurred once. The contact had not taken the vehicle to be diagnosed nor repaired. Neither a dealer nor the manufacturer were made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,200.”
