Common Problems with the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban
Drivetrain, Transmission Issues:
“The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving 5 MPH and exiting a parking lot, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to properly accelerate as needed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to shift into low gear and continued driving to his residence. The vehicle became undrivable. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact towed the vehicle to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 43,684.”
“Hi, there! I know a few people that have the same car as me Suburban/Yukon/Tahoe and everyone had to replace their transmission. My car has about 78K miles on it and I need to replace the transmission as well. It jerks really bad. When I press the gas pedal it doesn't move for like 2 - 3 seconds, but after that, it takes off like crazy. It seems very unsafe to me. Please look into it.”
“The transmission jerks a lot, especially when taking off. I know 4 more people that drive a Suburban, Silverado, and Yukon, and all of them had to change the transmission before 100k miles. The dealer doesn't want to fix it, cause the warranty expired, but how is it fair for us consumers to pay 60k for a car that only lasts 5 years? When I called the dealer, even the technician agreed that they have a lot of problems with the transmission and are booked a few weeks ahead just to take a look at it. Please advise. Thank you.”
Electrical Problems:
“The electrical system has gone out completely comes back a few seconds later with different icons saying to roll driver side window down then up, or stabiltrax. It has also caused complete electrical failure being on a road while driving. This has also cause my wheel to jerk taking out the power steering and the engine has shut off completely to the point where I have to wait a few minutes to even turn it on. This has happened while reversing in to a parking spot and the whole car dies. It kills power so much that I have no hazard lights. When I-€™m able to get it to come Back on it-€™s like it reset its self. I have taken it to the shop and they have said the battery cables and the mega fuse above the battery. I know this is a known issue in other like vehicles.”
“The entire electrical system shuts down including lights while driving down the road. No driving light or display at night for about 30 seconds then come back on. System also loses all displays on dash during the day as well.”
“The touch screen is defective. It has a mind of its own and constantly changes radio stations, changes from radio to cd, changes from navigation to radio, changes volume and is very distracting while driving and has almost caused numerous accidents.”
Engine Problems:
“The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle started shaking forcefully. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the engine to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.”
“The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving 10-15 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel injectors had failed. Then the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that six of the eight fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring and the vehicle had been shuddering while driving and while reversing. The contact also stated that the vehicle would jump and hesitate to respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed at the stoplight. The contact also stated that the vehicle had stalled while driving on the highway. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but informed the contact that they would not cover the repair under an unknown service bulletin because the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.”
Brakes Problems:
“The brakes will sometimes not work properly. When the brake pedal is pressed when parking or coming to a stop, it takes longer for the vehicle to stop. The brake pedal will also vibrate when coming to a stop and "roll" to a stop. We have had our brakes checked twice in the last 3 months at the Chevrolet dealership and they say the brakes are fine. We now had an incident where we were parking in a parking garage and nearly hit the wall in front of us because the brakes did not stop the car properly. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership to have the brakes checked again (February 3rd, 2023). We were afraid to drive it ourselves on the freeway. Since it is the weekend, we have to wait until Monday (2/6/2023) for them to check our vehicle. We are going to let the dealership know what we have found online with the "recall" of certain 2017 Chevrolet Suburbans about a defect in the Brake Assist and Power Brake Vacuum Pump. This has been an ongoing issue we've had since we purchased the vehicle (new purchase in 2017), but it has progressively gotten worse.”
“antilock brake system makes it hard to press brakes mostly traveling at lower speed like when I’m parking. previously had it reprogrammed because of a recall but it continues to have this issue periodically. Now I’m being told I need to replace to brake vacuum?”
“The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving at approximately 5 MPH and slowing to park the vehicle in his residence driveway, the brakes failed to function and the vehicle rolled into a large plastic refuse bin. There was minor damage to the front driver side of the bumper. The contact stated that he buffed out the damage. The contact stated that he did not feel the normal pressure from the brake pedal. The contact placed the vehicle into reverse (R) to back away from the refuse bin and again the brakes failed to function. The contact stated that the "brake assist" light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer, it was not diagnosed. The contact stated he replaced all four brake pads on his vehicle. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,027.”
